For those of you who think that your dietary cure to Ankylosing Spondylitis has to be a long, boring story filled with dry-as-sand chicken breast and iceberg lettuce or bacon and eggs every day I beg to differ. I honestly don’t get bored on this diet and you shouldn’t either. Here’s a really easy recipe [...]

Once you understand what causes Ankylosing Spondylitis it’s easy to understand why [...]
Keep Your Balls in Check
by Bob on January 9, 2012 in ankylosing spondylitis, Diet
There is a tendency to TRY EVERYTHING when searching for a cure for ankylosing spondylitis. That’s fine in theory, but if in executing this idea you try everything at once then how will you know for sure which single thing is working? Having 5 new balls in the air all of a sudden is difficult [...]
Diet Can Cure Disease
by Bob on December 12, 2011 in ankylosing spondylitis, Diet
Many people who suffer from ankylosing spondylitis stumble on this website as they search for alternatives to powerful and potentially harmful drugs like Humera, Remicade, and painkillers. I often find myself answering email inquiries from confused AS patients asking a version of the same question: Is this for real? Can diet really cure my disease? [...]
Vegetarians and Heel-Strikers
by Bob on August 17, 2011 in ankylosing spondylitis, Diet, excercise, Paleo, Primal
One of the great benefits of having been diagnosed with a supposedly incurable autoimmune disease is the sense of empowerment which comes from curing yourself of said incurable disease. Fuck you very much doc, I fixed this myself! The most wonderful things can happen when you stop believing what people are telling you and start [...]
Crawl, Walk, Fly
by Bob on August 9, 2011 in ankylosing spondylitis, Diet, Low Starch
If it’s on the web, then it must be true. Right? Danger, Will Robinson, danger! Once again, inspiration for this post comes from the greatest ankylosing spondylitis website around. A writer made a point the other day about not making the no-starch diet so effing complicated- specifically, don’t turn every single little rule or personal [...]
Just Start Already
by Bob on August 4, 2011 in ankylosing spondylitis, Diet, KickAS, Low Starch
I’ve read a few recent posts over on my favorite ankylosing spondylitis support website where the questioners seem to have a massive case of analysis paralysis. A few folks even seem defeated before they start on the no-starch diet. Ridiculous. Folks, you’re making this too complicated. Stick with the big picture and I promise all [...]
FOS, GOS, and Inulin, Oh My!
by Bob on July 29, 2011 in ankylosing spondylitis, Diet, hidden starch, KickAS, klebsiella, Quick Start
Hidden sources of starch are everywhere in modern foods. God knows I’ve discovered most of these sources over the years and have cursed the bastards who put them there loudly and often. I think these sneaky food-chemists should be put on a slowly sinking boat in shark-infested waters along with those other jimmies who make [...]
The Only Rule? No Rules.
by Bob on July 23, 2011 in ankylosing spondylitis, Diet, Low Starch, Paleo, Primal, sleep
I just read a very interesting article on why one very popular paleo blogger is saying bye-bye to the paleo diet. I find it so interesting because this guy has been a force in the paleo blog scene for a long time and now he has done a 180 on the diet- claiming it has [...]
Melatonin
by Bob on July 22, 2011 in ankylosing spondylitis, Diet, hidden starch, sleep
File this one under the heading, “You Can Never Be Too Careful”. I’ve been doing this diet for about 6 years now and so I’ve got it down pretty good. Sure, I slip up once in a while, but this one squeaked right under my radar entirely. Melatonin. Melatonin is a great, non-addictive sleep aid. [...]
About this website
My name is Bob Connors and I have successfully treated my autoimmune disease, ankylosing spondylitis, using a No-Starch diet. Why not use your seemingly awful diagnosis (incurable genetic disorder...fun!) as an opportunity to realize your own optimal health? I'm 100% medication-free and am using diet alone to control my AS. I've become stronger and healthier than I ever was before my diagnosis by adhering to a whole foods (if you can't kill it or pick it, don't eat it!) diet and healthy lifestyle. If you have spinal fusions then unfortunately the damage is irreversible, but I'm living proof that diet can be used to avoid any further flares. So, in effect, you will have cured yourself of AS. Read on and feel free to email with any questions, or submit a question above in the "General Questions" tab and I'll answer asap. I honestly see my AS diagnosis as net positive on my life. Good Luck! Bob Connors bobconnors@gmail.com
