Hidden sources of starch are everywhere in modern foods. God knows I’ve discovered most of these sources over the years and have cursed the bastards who put them there loudly and often. I think these sneaky food-chemists should be put on a slowly sinking boat in shark-infested waters along with those other jimmies who make [...]
I’ve had to take a step back from some of the support websites I visit because of the negative attitude expressed by so many AS sufferers in regards to dietary treatment. On one particular website there are many folks who aggressively dismiss the n0-starch diet as a placebo, with condescending “acknowledgment” that, hey, if it [...]
Patient: “Hey Doc, I was wondering about some alternatives to these crappy NSAIDs you’ve got me on.” Rheumy: “Enbrel?” Patient: ” No, I mean like an alternative treatment.” Rheumy: “We treat all of our patients with the most up-to-date techniques possible. We already went over this, but here’s that print out from The Spondylitis Association.” [...]
Many people who suffer from ankylosing spondylitis have a hard time believing that their massively painful and debilitating disease is likely caused by the tiny bacterium Klebsiella. I’ll admit that I had a hard time believing it myself when I first stumbled across the kickas.org website soon after my AS diagnosis in 2006. But I [...]
Dr. Alan Ebringer of King’s College in London discovered in the early 80′s that a bacteria called Klebsiella is the likely culprit in the ankylosing spondylitis mystery. I’d encourage you to read all of the scientific papers on this link before dismissing the idea that your massive pain is caused by a tiny bacterium. I [...]
Here I am just a few short days into staring this blog and sharing my success with using diet as a means to control ankylosing spondylitis when I go ahead and get some unexpected starch into my diet. Nice! I had some Kabocha squash last night and I paid for it with a nice flare. [...]
About this website
My name is Bob Connors and I have successfully treated my autoimmune disease, ankylosing spondylitis, using a No-Starch diet. Why not use your seemingly awful diagnosis (incurable genetic disorder...fun!) as an opportunity to realize your own optimal health? I'm 100% medication-free and am using diet alone to control my AS. I've become stronger and healthier than I ever was before my diagnosis by adhering to a whole foods (if you can't kill it or pick it, don't eat it!) diet and healthy lifestyle. If you have spinal fusions then unfortunately the damage is irreversible, but I'm living proof that diet can be used to avoid any further flares. So, in effect, you will have cured yourself of AS. Read on and feel free to email with any questions, or submit a question above in the "General Questions" tab and I'll answer asap. I honestly see my AS diagnosis as net positive on my life. Good Luck! Bob Connors firstname.lastname@example.org
